    My Angles

    Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 01:36 PM [Astrology]

My ascendant, or rising sign, is Aquarius

    CafeAstrology page on Aquarius Ascendant

How unique and original Aquarius rising natives come across! These individuals are just that -- individuals, and they won't let you forget that fact. Often turned to for advice, these natives possess intellectual poise and savvy. They often are curious, and quite learned, in both science and metaphysics--anything that involves advancement of the human race holds much appeal.

It's hard to shock an Aquarius rising. They've seen it all, or at least want you to think they have. In fact, they often enjoy shocking others. Not that they are flamboyant by nature, but they do like to, albeit quietly, get a rise out of others. Some natives born with Aquarius on their Ascendant can be quietly provocative and irreverent.

Most people with this Ascendant are quite friendly and likable. Their personality quirks generally go over quite well with others. They generally give others quite a bit of freedom--accepting, as a rule, people from all walks of life as equals. And, their somewhat cool and detached curiosity about all that goes on around them appeals to most.

Curiously, Aquarius rising people can be a little standoffish while also coming across as humanitarian and kind.

Often labeled as independent and original children, Aquarius rising natives often feel a little "different" or "special" throughout life. They often feel like they are on the outside looking in, and their ability to observe and deduce is often uncanny. They're also adept at getting things to work, even when the parts that make up the whole seem like a puzzle with unusual pieces--especially when it comes to groups of people. This sets them apart as managers and team leaders.

The Ascendant often reveals physical mannerisms and even choice of dress, as it shows how people present themselves to the world. With Aquarius here, natives sometimes have a quirkiness to their manner, and some dress in a slightly offbeat manner--not enough to make them stand out like a sore thumb, but just enough to express their original temperament.

Because these people seem so open to new ideas, it may be surprising when you encounter their decidedly stubborn streak. Aquarius is a fixed sign, after all. The ascendant sign shows how individuals react to new situations, and with Aquarius rising, there can be a resistance to change that seems to belie the native's generally progressive nature. There's a distinct inflexibility with Aquarian rising people, and, sometimes, a tendency to want to force their opinions on others.

With their eye to the future of mankind as a whole, some people born with an Aquarius Ascendant overlook the more personal needs of the people closest to them. They are often attracted to partners who possess self-confidence and ardor.

Aquarius Rising and Uranus in Sagittarius

Your Uranus is in Sagittarius: You rebel against all conservative, life-inhibiting beliefs and philosophies, religious or otherwise, and you have a streak of self-righteous fanaticism. Changing people's world-view or are least challenging it - is part of your life pattern.

This explains my desire to point at people I come across on the Internet or on TV and yell "YOU IDIOTS!"

    My midheaven is in Scorpio.

    From babybirthchart:

People with Scorpio Midheaven are self-directed and sure of what they want and how to get it. While their desires are clear to them, they can also be ruthless about achieving them. When they push themselves too hard and too far, they become exhausted and feel momentarily powerless. Then they need a safe place to revive and be re-inspired. It's crucial for them to learn how to respond without losing their center and giving away too much of their mental, physical, and emotional reserves.

These people are in touch with basic truths of human existence. This allows them to be genuinely sympathetic towards others. They know the strengths others bring to situations and can inspire them to use their potential. They can also use their understanding of pushing too hard and personal limits to help others who struggle with difficult decisions.

Scorpio Midheaven folks understand the nature of death and other transformations differently from other people. They experience major transitions more intensely than others but know they can survive them well. Their awareness of their darker side allows them to respond to difficult situations skillfully and in an inspiring way.

Since Scorpio is the sign of desire, Scorpio Midheaven people meet resistance in every moment. How they deal with this resistance is important. If they stay attached to getting their way, they will be continually angry and frustrated. However, if they develop the courage to let go of the people, things, and situations they most care about, they can share their strength with others in a way that helps.

Folks with Scorpio Midheaven are at their best when they are balancing their intellectual and feeling sides. They need to be careful not to jump to conclusions too quickly and become angry and aggressive in forcing resolution of difficult situations. They need to see reality clearly for what it is. It also helps if they befriend their deep emotions and give them space without getting overwhelmed by them or using them to dominate others. Scorpio Midheaven's creativity lies in using their courage, determination, and willingness to heal in order to facilitate change.

    My descendant is in Leo.

    From Astrology.com:

If Leo lies on your Descendant, you're hunting for a mate who is as gregarious and sociable as you, but who possesses the sort of resolute confidence and emotional expressiveness that you sometimes feel you lack. Since you have Aquarius Rising -- a Sign associated with aloof intellectuality and humanitarian interests -- you need a mate who will counter your self-deprecating pride with their own brand of pride -- of a more effervescent, positive variety. You hold your own in the spotlight, assured and well-spoken. When the attention turns to your love life, though, to sharing your most intimate emotions with another person, you run and hide, fearful of being pinned down or caged; and yet you instinctually seek out romantic partners who are steadfast and loyal and who will worship you and spoil you with unconditional support and affection.

My imum coeli is in Taurus. I can't find any resources that can explain that, except for my book on the Zodiac that simply says I am rooted in family values and need security.

    My Astrological Profile - Alabe.com

    Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 12:54 PM [Astrology]

Here is the natal chart I generated for free on alabe.com. It came with a basic interpretation of the Sun sign, Moon sign, Rising sign (Ascendant), and effects of the planets within their signs. It looks like I was born really close to a conjunction, lol; not a lot of zodiacal diversity in the planetary infuences here. Below is what Alabe says about me.

Rising Sign is in 09 Degrees Aquarius.
You like new ideas and concepts, but you prefer to discover them by yourself -- it is not easy for others to convert you to anything. You form your own opinions, but once you do form them, you then want to convince everyone else that they are correct. Try to be more tolerant of the opinions of others. You have a deep and abiding interest in science, mathematics, and the great social problems of the day. Very sympathetic toward the downtrodden, equality is your battle cry! You demand that those in authority be fair to all. You are an intellectual -- emotions and emotional people are difficult for you to understand. You are known for being calm, cool, detached and objective.

Sun is in 22 Degrees Sagittarius.
Very fun-loving, spirited and energetic, you have a huge reservoir of physical energy within you that needs to be released. As such, exercise or sports are very important to you. Quite gregarious, you enjoy being with other people, but you tend to avoid emotionally restrictive or intimate relationships. Constantly curious about the broader issues of life, you may at times be quite careless and sloppy about details -- you tend to leap to conclusions before all the facts are in. An avid reader, you are totally enthusiastic about any given subject should it interest you. You are known for being idealistic, generous, sociable, cheerful and very positive!

Moon is in 14 Degrees Sagittarius.
An idealist, you prefer the grand, the beautiful, the good and the noble. You get very disappointed when your high expectations in life are not met. Very curious by nature, you enjoy traveling and learning about other peoples and cultures. Try to avoid your tendency to ignore the small but important details of living. You are independent and free, and you want others to be that way, too. Optimistic, buoyant and cheerful, others like to have you around. You have an incessant desire to learn as much as possible about metaphysics, religion, philosophy and any other broad, deep subject. Your life tends to be punctuated by bursts of energy and frenetic activity.

Mercury is in 05 Degrees Capricorn.
You are a careful thinker, very cautious and conservative. You are quite skillful at organizing, directing and planning activities. Practical and useful things interest you -- you are not attracted to abstract thoughts or ideas. With your tendency to be highly focused and very goal-oriented, you have a good head for business. But beware of a tendency to be narrow-minded and dogmatic. Your sense of humor tends toward being earthy and slapstick crude.

Venus is in 02 Degrees Capricorn.
You tend to keep your feelings under control -- emotions are only released in serious or important situations. You are distrustful of others whose behavior could be judged excessive or immoderate. As such, you prefer to relate only to those who are older than you or to those whose position is such that respect and duty are more important for both of you than passion or emotional response. Be careful, however, of relationships that are merely based on practicality or utility or you will ultimately be lonely.

Mars is in 03 Degrees Aquarius.
Your ideas and opinions are usually inventive and original, but sometimes they are merely eccentric and offbeat. You are altruistic -- you will work hard for the attainment of group goals, as long as they meet your high standards. You tend to resent traditional authority figures because you think that your ideas are better thought out and more valuable than theirs. Very idealistic, you are a rebel WITH a cause!

Jupiter is in 27 Degrees Scorpio.
You love to dig deep beneath surface appearances in order to find out what is really happening. A persistent researcher, you are very interested in the psychology of any situation. You tend to become overwhelmed by the complexity of what you uncover, however, and that makes you a bit gun-shy about explaining things to others. But you must learn to try to communicate as best you can because what you know is really very valuable to others.

Saturn is in 01 Degrees Scorpio.
You tend to release emotional energies only very reluctantly. This is partly due to your fear of what horrible calamity might occur should they be released -- your emotions are terribly complicated and intense. Try not to repress these energies entirely, however, or you will succumb to negative and destructive forms of compulsive behavior. Give yourself the freedom to look awkward or silly once in a while. The relief you feel will be quite therapeutic and the embarrassment (whether it is real or imagined) will pass quickly.

Uranus is in 05 Degrees Sagittarius.
You, and most of your peers, have the tendency to think that all ideas, customs and traditions from the past are outmoded and irrelevant. You are attracted to radically new ideas, philosophies and religions that will, hopefully, cause sweeping changes throughout the world.

Neptune is in 26 Degrees Sagittarius.
You, and your entire generation, are heavily involved in investigating and idealizing foreign and exotic intellectual systems and religious philosophies. The most extreme ideals will be pursued with gusto. You will be at the forefront of humanitarian attempts to improve the lot of those who are in need of assistance. You will be comfortable with the concept of the "global village."

Pluto is in 28 Degrees Libra.
For your entire generation, this is a time of radical changes in society's attitude toward marriage and interpersonal relationships. There is a general fear and awe at the power inherent in making emotional or contractual commitments -- they will not be entered into lightly.

    N. Node is in 04 Degrees Cancer.
You genuinely enjoy meeting other people, but you're at your best if you can do so from the comfort of your own home. You prefer others to come to you and tend to feel uncomfortable about leaving your home or neighborhood for any extended period of time. Those who do come in contact with you are struck by your caring and obliging nature -- you really make them feel at home. You form the closest ties, however, with members of your immediate family, especially your parents and children. You're at your best attending or organizing family reunions!

The Yearning for Zion Ranch Issue

    Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 09:39 AM [General]

I haven't yet gone into the TV room; my parents leave the TV on when they leave for work, and ultimately the channel it's always left on will show Dr. Phil. Right now they're talking about those people from the ranch, the "lost boys" specifically.

I know that the purpose of the media is to inform us and make us aware of things that go on outside our circles and social spheres, but I wish they didn't have to do it in such a way to try and grab our attention, to impress some viewpoint upon it that is biased; they tell us about the sexual and child abuse but they also make it look like everyone at that ranch is completely screwed up.

Sexual abuse, child abuse, and various combinations of the two happen every day in communities all over the world, large and small, varying in faith and belief. When you single out one community like Yearning for Zion, it's like you put a pair of blinders over your head, and for the moment you're not thinking about the world as a whole; all of your feelings toward the degredation of humanity is focused on this one group, this one issue, and they end up taking the full brunt of all of this negative energy.

We cannot leap in and save this screwed-up world from everything when all we have to influence us is the negative energy that the media feeds us daily. Personally I feel that the best plan of attack is not to go ramming heads against the outside walls, but to breed dissent from the inside; to negative energy, this dissent would of course be positive energy. We should send positive energy to those who need it, and focusing on building it where it already resides; when you focus on the positive rather than the negative, the positive gets more attention and ends up getting stronger. IMHO.

    Divination - Runestones

    Wednesday, April 23, 2008, 08:58 AM [Divination]

I tried several different methods but the first one that really stuck to me was runestones. Traditionally, according to some Asatruar sources I've met over the Internet, runes are supposed to be cast by tossing nine twigs on the ground and reading the symbols that they create as they overlap one another. The method of tossing runestones on a surface and reading the correspondences between the symbols on the stones in the manner of which they lay in relation to the reader as well as to each other is a reflection of the traditional casting method, although not considered to be authentic. The method of casting that gives me the best results is when I draw them from their pouch and place them in the pattern of a tarot card layout; three for a simple situation, 5 for a bit more complicated one, and a full Celtic Cross for a really complex one). I have never been able to read tarot cards really well; perhaps my mind operates on a more primal level to where it can read simple symbols better than deciphering messages from Jungian archetypes and other mental/psychological symbolism.

    April 1st Witches Weekly

    Tuesday, April 22, 2008, 08:07 AM [General]

I used to do these pretty regularly. I was able to find the site again, so I'm going to start going them again.

Q: Do you feel that pagans/neo-pagans as a whole have a responsibility to the environment? Do you incorporate eco-conscious decisions in your spiritual work? Or do you feel that the two subjects should remain separate and have no interest in the environment as a whole?

A: Whether or not we feel that we do, I feel that we should, at least. If we are going to work with the energy of the Earth in raising power or grounding, we should create a balance and work to heal the Earth as well, or at least protect it. When I do spiritual work, I take it upon myself to make sure that nothing from the Earth is damaged or destroyed in my work, and that I leave nothing behind but my footprints and residual positive energies.
